On Hawaii’s Big Island, golf is a number one pastime. The Big Island has more golf courses than any other Hawaiian island. A Big Island golf vacation is the best way to enjoy golfing in Hawaii. With so many impressive golf courses to choose from, you are sure to have the time of your life! Big Island golf offers a lot of variety and plenty of challenges for golfers of all skill levels. Golf courses on the Big Island are sure to satisfy your appetite for great golfing.
Some of the Best Big Island Golf Has to Offer
The Kona Country Club offers the best two golf courses on the Big Island. The Mountain golf course has numerous challenges, including elevated tees and lava blowholes. This 18-hole golf course is great for beginners through pros and offers stunning views of the nearby mountains. The Ocean golf course also features 18-holes and presents its own set of golfing challenges. This golf course is situated so close to the Big Island coastline that you may even get sprayed by ocean mist while golfing! It also features strong trade winds and many other golfing hazards.
The Mauna Lani Resort on the Big Island also features two golf courses, the North course and the South course. On the North golf course there are five or more tees to choose from on each hole, allowing a golfer of any skill level to find their perfect shot. The course’s signature hole is number 17, because it is surrounded by lava rock formations. The South golf course also has its share of lava rock formations, but it has other key features. Two of this golf course’s holes are right along the coastline, and one of the holes requires you to take a shot over the ocean to reach the green. In addition, hole number 15 on the South golf course is one of the most photographed holes in the world.
Although nearly all of the Big Island golf courses are on the west, northwest side of the island, the Volcano Golf and Country Club golf course is not. This golf course is located near Volcanoes National Park on the southeastern corner of the island. A game of Big Island golf played on this golf course is sure to be a peaceful one. The surroundings and general atmosphere of the course allow you to take your time and enjoy the golf course to the fullest.
